Kelly Park/Rock Springs Run is one of Apopka's best known secrets. Wildlife abounds and the springs are just beautiful. I've always wanted to paint them, and in doing so, wanted to pay tribute to some of it's "guests". "678" was a bear that "visited" the park a few times. After enjoying Kelly Park, he has made his way back to Rock Springs Preserve, Florida's largest black bear habitat, just minutes from Apopka.

This piece was created as a tribute to Miko, a Short Tailed Hawk who was rescued, after a gunshot wound, here at Apopka's Avian Reconditioning Center. Miko is named for the Calusa Indian Chief. I chose to create his portrait on a distressed wood background, depicting a ceremonial Calusa wooden mask.

Custom ordered piece with the owner in his boat included in the painting. A lot of the wildlife in this piece came from walks around the area around my home. We have numerous Sandhills and Ibis and a wet prarie nearby. The other inspirations (hence the title) were inspired by the Kissimmiee and Paynes Prairie.

Even the title, which is a direct quote from the ride, harks back to those carefree days in "Walt's Playground". Closer inspection will give the true Disneyphile a treat of 6 Hidden Mickeys!!
