| Mural Updates |
The Bethesda Memorial Hospital Project has received even more acclaim than any of us had hoped. All eight walls captured an essence that draws the viewer into another world; either a tropical escape or an underwater vantage, the thought of being in a hospital environment quickly disappears.
As you well know, the sinking mural project was a great success. Together with Palm Beach County Environmental Resources Management, US Customs, and Sherwin-Williams, we have set a precedent hard to beat. DBolly.com has added some photos and text of the ships (including GPS coordinates), and we will continue to do so as more become available. We are anxiously awaiting more photos and video footage from "the deep", including some by famed marine life photographer Ron Streeter.
As a finishing touch to the project, a propellor from one of the sinking mural ships was polished, mounted, and I "painterly embellished" it to act as a monument commemorating The Governor's Riverwalk Reef. Added to the bronze base were a giant moray eel and sting ray, while a school of Yellowtail Snapper swim across the propeller's polished gold blades. The monument was presented to Gov. Jeb Bush in a private ceremony, and will stand in the US Coast Guard Maritime Museum on Peanut Island in Riviera Beach. See the Sinking Murals page of this site for more information.
After years of enjoyment, the Miami Seaquarium has removed the Manatee Grotto mural. During a recent remodeling of the viewing area, the walls were removed (some saved, some demolished), listing this wall as extinct. The other two are alive and well, greeting visitors each day at the park. |

In Closing... PRESERVATION! CONSERVATION! Let these words ring out to the masses. Let the feeling stir the souls of all who breathe.
Ok, I guess that's a little dramatic, but the point is the same. Whether it's the ocean, beach, countryside, or roadside, we should show respect and appreciation for the world around us. We were the last living beings put here, therefore, making us the lowest of the pecking order. The Freshmen on our global campus per se.
That being said, we are also the ones destroying our "campus". Pollution and litter are eating away at our environment at unbelievable proportions. Luckily, many groups are out there to get involved with, helping keep our world a better place.
One such group is OCEANWATCH FOUNDATION. They are an asset in saving what we have below the surface for generations to come. Projects like REEF SWEEP and beach cleanups make them a force to be reckoned with in the fight against pollution.
Whatever you do, be it with a group or just by picking up the trash you see, makes a difference. Be the one to set an example for those around you! Morals and ethics ARE contagious!
